Hi all,

A huge thanks to everyone for making our first “Smash Cancer” Tennisathon in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland such a success.  We have raised over €6000 for Breast Cancer Ireland through online donations and also in the club today which is double our target!!  https://fundraising.breastcancerireland.com/fundraiser/ET51322517

Myriam kicked off the days events playing tennis for 5 hours non stop!  What an achievement Myriam.  Our fun teamer started at 1pm and thanks everyone for signing up, bringing all the colour (Bernard and Pete particularly 😊) and playing lots of super tennis.    Our “Fastest Serve” competition proved very popular (and very competitive).  Jeremy is our Club champ representing our male members, clocking in at an incredible 161 km/h with Sarah representing our female members with an amazing speed of 113 km/h.  Our junior fastest servers are Finn with a speed of 100 km/h and Maeve at 79 km/h.  Future Senior Club Champs we think!   Our “Winner stays on” was won by James O’Connell who was playing his father Dan in a closely fought battle with a winning smash from James confirming his win.  Congrats James.  Our Badminton courts were full all afternoon with junior and senior blitzes also. And the table tennis was very popular all day long with junior and senior members.

We also ran some fantastic badminton blitzes today. We had two groups, beginners/novice players and competitive players. Thanks to Elvira and Xavi for running the blitzes on behalf of the Badminton Committee and thanks to everyone for supporting a very worthy cause. It was a lovely day. 🏸

Thanks to everyone who donated food, particularly Deana who baked incredible cupcakes and cookies.  Between all of the baked goods and Therese on the pizza oven, the troops were well fed all day.  Thanks Therese!

Our face painters were busy in the tent with some amazing creations. David Casey looked particularly fantastic.  Bernard and Pete were in contention for best fancy dress with Bernard just pipping Pete at the post with his fabulous hairstyle.

The raffle proved very popular, particularly for Willie O’Doherty, who cleaned up!!  We will contact all prize winners in due course and get your prize to you, if you didn’t receive it earlier.

Thanks Kathy Howe, for taking all the photos. A huge thanks to Ennis Tennis and Badminton Club and all the committee members for all the support and the pizzas, tea, coffee, lights, heat, advice, logistics…..the list is endless.

And lastly, thanks to all of you club members who donated online, signed up to the teamer, organised raffle prizes, bought raffle tickets for yourselves and friends and family, brought cakes and buns, set up the tent and brought the heater (Siobhan) lent us the stereo (Joe) and helped set up and clean up and came along today to play and support such an important charity.  What a fantastic club we have!!

More photos to follow.

Thanks again,

Clara, Karen, Myriam, Sue, Edel, Sinead and Katja.
